I will admit that I was sort of secretly rooting for Charlie Sheen's new show Anger Management to be a huge success. Regardless of how you feel about Sheen's personal life, it is impossible to ignore his contribution to the appeal of Two and a Half Men. He made the show funny. End of story.
After watching the premiere of Anger Managment last night; however, I couldn't help but be disappointed. Charlie Sheen is still talented, and he has surrounded himself by a host of talented actors... his ex-wife on the show is played by the hilarious Shawnee Smith, his best friend/thereapist/hook-up is played by Selma Blair, and I just adore Derek Richardson (best known from Men in Trees) who is playing one of Sheen's anger management patients. So, the cast is there. But, the writing is not.
The premise is intriguing. Sheen's character struggles with anger management himself, and now helps others. He has a funny ex-wife, a host of eclectic characters in his anger management group, and a hot best friend not looking for any sort of commitment. There should be plenty of funny in there. But, there just wasn't. There were a few laughs, but with this kind of cast, I expect more. Lots more.
I hope that the writing improves, so that the cast, and the show can live up to its true potential.
